The Tennessee Forestry Association hosts a tour each year for the Commissioner of Agriculture to learn more about and meet individuals involved with the forestry industry in Tennessee. On May 29, 2018, Middleton Lumber Company was honored to host Commissioner Jai Templeton and his staff to visit their facility as a part of this year's tour.
On April 21, 2018, Middleton Lumber Company hosted a Tennessee Healthy Hardwoods Forestry Field Day. The theme for the event was "Sustainable Forestry Versus Diameter Limit Cutting". Private land owners and industry professionals were able to visit a field site provided by the Middleton family that demonstrated a one acre plot of timber harvested by diameter limit cutting and a one acre plot harvested by a sustainable, managed cut. Data was also provided by Dr. David Mercker that included harvested log volume, log value, as well as residual volume on each plot. This provided an excellent educational opportunity to understand the importance of sustainable forestry management to reap long term benefits.
As an added attraction to the 2018 Healthy Hardwoods Field Day, Middleton Lumber also provided participants with the a facility tour.
The event was coordinated and sponsored by UT Extension, Tennessee Forestry Association, and Middleton Lumber Company.
